Principal

Michael Butler is Principal of CPRG Consulting based in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Mike has over 30 years experience in corporate marketing and public relations, including founding and managing three successful public relations and marketing firms. The firms included Butler Ackermann Public Relations in Knoxville, TN, Butler & Butler Marketing and Public Relations, Inc. in Columbia, SC, and CPRG Consulting in Charlotte.

Through these firms, Mike developed client relationships with Fortune 500 companies, national trade associations, government agencies, economic development groups and numerous small businesses. One of his companies, Butler Ackermann, was named to Inc. magazine’s list of 500 fastest-growing privately held companies. Butler & Butler quickly grew to become one of the largest PR firms in Columbia.

Mike was also chief speechwriter for the president of Phillips Petroleum Company (now ConocoPhillips) and Manager of Media Relations for the Tennessee Valley Authority where he served as chief nuclear spokesman for seven-state utility.

He served as Public Information Officer for the Department of Energy and its predecessors at Oak Ridge, Savannah River, South Carolina and at the agency’s headquarters in Washington, DC. He was also a Communications Consultant to the Secretary of Energy.

Over the past 30 years, Mike has assisted dozens of major corporations, chambers of commerce and economic development groups with their public relations needs. Some of his clients include Stone & Webster, BNFL, ABB Combustion, Tennessee Valley Authority, Bechtel National, Westinghouse Electric Corporation, Westinghouse Savannah River Corporation, Citizens for Nuclear Technology Awareness, Office of the Nuclear Waste Negotiator, Edison Electric Institute, US Council for Energy Awareness (now Nuclear Energy Institute) and many others.

A former newspaper reporter and Associated Press writer, Mike has been recognized with numerous awards in the public relations field including Practitioner of the Year by the Volunteer Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA).
